Accessing the System

How to Request Access

Illinois HTC is a free resource for Illinois researchers. Request access to the system by completing the Illinois HTC access request form (sign into Google Forms with your Google Apps @ Illinois account).

After you submit the form, the Illinois HTC admin team will review your request and follow up with you via email.

How to Log into the System

After you have been granted access to the system, log in via SSH. Replace <NetID> with your Illinois NetID.

ssh <NetID>@htc-login.campuscluster.illinois.edu

Enter your NetID password, when prompted.

Note

Logging in to Illinois HTC now requires multi-factor authentication (MFA) with Duo. After you enter your NetID password, you will be prompted to authenticate with your University of Illinois Duo account.

Generally, Unix/Linux based systems have an SSH client by default, however desktops/laptops running versions of Windows prior to Windows 10 version 1803 do not. There is third party software available for Windows users to access the Campus Cluster. Please see this non-exhaustive list of SSH Clients clients that can be used to access the Campus Cluster.

User-generated SSH keys are not allowed. Multi-factor authentication with your University of Illinois Duo account is required. If you have any questions, please submit a support request.

SSH Clients

A variety of SSH-based clients are available for accessing the Campus Cluster from your local system. There are two types of SSH clients, clients that support both remote login access and data transfers, and clients that support data transfers only.
